Right from the market!

Arriving at the Pawtucket Wintertime Market on the rainy Saturday morning was very overwhelming. There were so many vendors and so many things going on. I have never been to a fresh market before so I was unsure on what to expect. I had my camera ready for pictures and my questions all sorted out. Once arriving and getting to see and talk to the vendors it was amazing to see the sustainability they have with their products.

Take a look at some of these amazing vendors:

Cranberry Hill Farm

The first vendor that stuck out to me was a little cranberry vendor run by a single woman. The decorations were very cute and she was very friendly. After asking many questions about her cranberry
stand I learned that she runs her business with 3 other people. It all started when she wanted to start her own business to renovate cranberries. She wanted organic cranberries and wanted to help people enjoy organic cranberries. She leases land on Cape Cod where she runs her own business called The Edible Yard. This business consists of going to homes and is hired to plant vegetables gardens for people to enjoy organic foods as much as she. She is sustainable by only producing organic foods and growing it all organically.  During our conversation she revealed that this work is very hard work but she enjoys it very much.

Eva Ruth’s

The second vendor was a very interesting and accomplished vendor. Eva Ruth’s is a bakery that makes only gluten free food and also nut free. The bakery is from Middletown, RI and is run by a lady who was diagnosed with a disease that would no longer let her eat foods with nuts, wheat, and gluten in it.
A little over five years ago she started this bakery and now has up to 12 employees. Within the five years of opening her bakery she is now selling her foods in grocery stores such as Whole Foods and Shaw’s as well as at local markets in Providence, RI and Boston markets in Quincy and Braintree. Since there is not many employee, they bake everything in Middletown, MA and then transport to all the markets and grocery stores. The vender, one of Eva Ruth’s employees, said “it is very hard to make gluten free taste good” Eva Ruth’s clearly is getting it right!

  1. Great to see so many interesting vendors at the Market. I missed each of these but I will be sure to look out for them at my next visit. Many in my family are gluten free and this looks like something they would surely be interested in. Great find, thanks for spreading the word!
