Pawtucket Farmers Market!

Attending the Pawtucket Farmers Market was definitely a new and exciting experience for me.  I have never been to a farmers market before, so I was surprised by how big the building was and how many vendors were actually there and continue to attend every weekend.  There were so many different products being sold ranging from fresh food and vegetables, to clothing and natural skin care products.  All the vendors were extremely friendly and I was able to speak to two in particular about their products which focused mainly on locally grown fruit and vegetables because who doesn't love food.

Apponagansett Farm is small family run farm in South Dartmouth, MA who are dedicated to providing high quality, sustainably grown food to their local community.   I got the privilege to speak to Susan who is one of the founders of the farm that opened in 2012.  At her vendor station, she mostly had out vegetables and fresh eggs that can be purchased directly from her farm, local natural food stores, and the farmers market. She explained to me that her farm specializes in growing a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and flowers without any fertilizers and pesticides. They also use certified organic sprays to keep away bugs and disease from their crops in order to grow healthier plants.

Fun Fact:  Susan believes in Community Supported Agriculture in order to stay sustainable and helps out other local businesses as much as she can!

Fully Rooted was another vendor that I got to visit and they specialize in raw-cold pressed juices.  I must say I am usually not a face of juicing but I had the opportunity to try one and they are actually very tasty!   They are located at two different farmers market including the one in Pawtucket and another in North Kingstown.  The vegetables they use are raw and unprocessed and they do not add any preservatives to keep the food nutrient-dense and pure.  Fully Rooted strongly believes in the health of the individual and the benefits that come from fruits and veggies.  To make your own juice, they have many options to choose from including apples, beets, carrots, celery, kale, lemon, and ginger.  An interesting fact I learned while speaking to the individuals of Fully Rooted is that the pulp they use from their juice is given to local farms to be used as animal feed, making their production waste-free.  They do a great job keeping their business and community sustainable.

Overall, I had a great time visiting the Pawtucket Farmers Market and definitely recommend those who are interested to visit!  Thanks for reading my blog and don't forget to follow @BryantMKT421 on Twitter to keep up with our travels through Costa Rica learning about marketing sustainability.
